2006.05.14 :: 星期日

English version...

I went to Kuala Lumpur for a while week for business. Haven't been to KL for my whole life, I looked really stupid as if everything were completely new to me.

Because I work at the airport, the first thing I noticed was the airport really looks like its 1-year younger cousin, the Hong Kong International Airport: big shiny windows, transparent elevators, spacious check-in areas, clean for the most of the spots. Really not bad at all, and the security seems fine too.

And then I found that 99% of the person who looks like Chinese, can speak Cantonese well. While in the same time, these people can also speak Mandrain as well as English, Malay, or even FuJian, so impressive. My taiwanese colleague was also stunned.

I have to stay at the airport hotel so it's pretty bored. The hotel is close to the airport but not like the one in ours that is just a footbridge away. There is buggy service that takes u from the terminal to the hotel for only about a minute, but only when YOU CAN CATCH THE buggy (no schedules, of course). The hotel room is usually found in SE Asian hotels, big and spacious. The hotel is also equipped with a nice swimming pool. I was heard it was the best airport hotel, i think so too.

I really like to go to the Food Garden at the 2nd floor of the terminal. very cheap, ample selections. Two of them serve chinese food (or like so), one is Cantonese style like noodles and fried rice, another one is chicken rice, but not like those in S'pore. I reckon the people here like drink Milo as well, interesting.

Went to the city one day by taking the express train from airport to sentral, but it costs you a hefty 70 bucks. Yes its expensive, but well what can I say, I like to go everywhere.

Sentral station is the place for traffic, it's hustle and bustle with people everywhere and they change trains there. If you want to go to the twin towers, just take the Purat LRT to KLCC station.

I reckon there is a thing like "Octopus" on the toll gates, but the stupid thing is that the ticket machines only accept exact change, if you have no change, you are out of luck and have to line up at the ticket counter. You get a cheesy paper ticket in return, who knows if u can cheat it for anything.

But I like the KL monorail more. Yes it is slow, but you can see the city sights from above, and watch the captain drive the thing, nothing more fun compared with this. The monorail station is just opposite the big sentral station, you will see it after crossing a bunch of stalls like "Woman street".

I went straight to Bukit Nanas, where the Hard Rock Cafe is just below the station, to buy T-shirt (which is my own personal favorite). And then I followed the railroad and walked back to Bukit Bintang where all the goodies are there. During the walk I saw a lot of roadside bars, restaurants and discos and such, a lot of foreigners are gathering around, so much fun.

Finally after a half hour or so walk I arrived at Bukit Bintang. On one side of the station I saw big shopping malls like Lot10, there is an Isetan too. I also saw LV as well, but it is under renovation. the place is called Bintang walk and if you have the time (and $) it's a nice place to spend an afternoon. Since I couldn't find any place to eat I settled down at a roadside Italian restaurant for dinner. But then, I don't know if I was too hot walking or sick, I didn't have the mood to eat and wasted half slab of the steak. so pitty.

After dinner I picked up my map, where I suddenly noticed that at the other side of the station there are hawker stalls on the road. So i hurried there and found that it is really my heaven, outdoor roadside food stalls with noodles, veggies, stuff like that, all in Chinese written on the shining florencent plates that drew all my attention. oh well, too bad I was in a bad shape I would try every one of them, but i finally settled down in a shop to have Yoke Kuat Cha. It's not at all spendid, but good enough for me. The pork is fatty yet tasty. haha. I noticed later this place is called Jalan Alor and is famous for roadside food.

Oh well, the bad thing is that I had a very bad sore throat that night, maybe it was too "heaty". Yes, that's all about it, didn't have time to travel around.

PS. I was adviced to buy Harrod's bags in the airport, which it has a store there. I immediately spotted a shop beside the train stop in the departure area, but I haven't noticed there is one even bigger in the satellite terminal. But then, the bag selection is quite slim, only can satisfy but not all requests. It is a bit cheaper then they were in "watergoods" places in Hong Kong.
